New Director of Data Analytics Elevates Noridian’s Statistical Capabilities

Noridian Healthcare Solutions, LLC (Noridian), a leader in developing solutions for federal, state and commercial health care programs, has hired Leslie DiOrio to lead the data analytics department. As director, DiOrio will broaden the team’s abilities across company departments to strategically utilize data analytics to accurately predict workloads and decrease costs for customers. In addition, DiOrio’s team will support the medical policy, claims management and provider enrollment teams and help develop medical review strategies.

“Data analytics is essential to Noridian providing the best solutions and service to our customers because it helps identify where our capabilities are in the organization and how to leverage those skills to operate efficiently and develop impactful strategies,” says Troy Aswege, senior vice president of operations at Noridian. “I am thrilled for Leslie to join our team because she’s a great leader and understands the technical challenges payers and providers deal with and how data analytics can solve those issues.”

The data analytics department will collaborate with the IT division to implement technology that will leverage data to eliminate waste and streamline processes across the company. As a result, the team will improve the customer experience and increase cost savings.

DiOrio has more than 15 years of experience with commercial health care programs and extensive experience in data analytics. Prior to joining Noridian, she worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts in a variety of roles. A graduate of New York University and UMass Amherst, DiOrio has an MBA from the Isenberg School of Management and is a certified professional coder (CPC). She resides in the Boston area with her husband and two children.

New Director of IT Architecture Advances Noridian’s Technology Vision

Noridian Healthcare Solutions, LLC (Noridian), a leader in developing solutions for federal, state and commercial health care programs, is excited to announce Shane Sauvageau has been promoted to director of IT architecture. Overseeing the IT architecture department, Sauvageau and his team will continue to modernize technologies to meet customers’ requirements and lead integration efforts with business partners to develop secure and scalable solutions.

“We strive to provide the best technology solutions to Noridian’s current and future customers. Shane’s vast IT and leadership experience will meet this endeavor by identifying, developing and implementing creative IT solutions for our expanding business,” explains Todd Knain, senior vice president and chief information officer at Noridian. “Under Shane’s new guidance, I am confident we’ll continue to stay knowledgeable on the latest technology offerings and design innovative, secure and cost-effective IT strategies for our customers.”

In addition, the IT architecture department supports Noridian’s commitment to eliminating waste and improving processes by introducing automation and robotics to business processes. For example, multiple steps were eliminated within the Appeals department via process improvement and automation, saving Noridian $1.1 million dollars. As a result, individuals have more time to focus on cognitive work and brainstorm creative enhancements, helping to engage and retain employees.

Sauvageau has nearly 20 years of IT experience for government and commercial health care programs. Prior to joining Noridian, he worked for the State of North Dakota in IT. As an Army veteran, Sauvageau supervised and managed a team of network technicians in the Minnesota National Guard where he received numerous commendations for his military service. He resides in Fargo with his wife and children.

In all, Noridian employs nearly 150 talented IT professionals who deliver solutions that comply with Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) High and Moderate standards. The United Way Names Noridian a Most Engaged Workplace

Noridian Healthcare Solutions, LLC (Noridian), a leader in developing solutions for federal, state and commercial health care programs, has been recognized for its involvement with its local community.

The United Way of Cass Clay, the local chapter of the international nonprofit fundraising network, awarded Noridian a spot in the Top Ten Most Engaged Workplaces in the Fargo-Moorhead area. This honor recognizes Noridian for its close involvement with the United Way’s charitable work for people in need. The announcement was made at the organization’s Community Celebration & Annual Meeting held on March 31.

Noridian’s sister company, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota, was also named as a Most Engaged Workplace, taking the top spot among all companies. Both Noridian and Blue Cross Blue Shield are regular participants in United Way fundraisers, including the annual Battle for the North, a friendly fundraising event where the two companies compete to see who can make the most charitable donations.

Two new leaders grow Noridian’s clinical staff to 328

Noridian Healthcare Solutions, LLC (Noridian), a leader in developing solutions for federal, state and commercial health care programs, has promoted two current employees to senior roles in the company’s clinical services and medical review departments. Smitha Ballyamanda, M.D., CAQSM, has been promoted to senior contractor medical director, and Katie Shequen has stepped into a newly formed role as vice president of clinical services. Dr. Ballyamanda and Shequen will create policy development and clinical review strategies vital to Noridian’s customers’ operational services.

“Noridian’s experienced team of medical physicians, nurses and other health care clinicians ensure we are accurately creating and reviewing appropriate policies to help minimize abuse and avoid waste for our customers,” explains Troy Aswege, senior vice president of operations at Noridian. “In addition, Dr. Ballyamanda and Shequen’s extensive clinical and Medicare leadership experience will impact best practices as we grow into other markets.”

Dr. Ballyamanda is responsible for clinical appropriateness and standard of care for Noridian’s durable medical equipment (DME) contracts. Her work directly relates to the efficiency of programs and processes throughout the Medicare program. Shequen will lead all clinical services management and staff. Her role supports the expansion of clinical services to the government and private enterprise and ensures the division is offering the best possible service, while meeting contract expectations and remaining in budget.

Beginning her career with Noridian in 2018, Dr. Ballyamanda was hired as a DME contractor medical director for Jurisdiction A and has contributed to all the company’s Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) activities and processes. She brings 13 years of experience in family medicine, sports medicine, occupational medicine and urgent care services, as well as six years of Medicare experience in physician reviews, medical policy and administrative law judge casework. Dr. Ballyamanda will execute her role from Fort Mill, South Carolina, where she lives with her family.

Shequen joined Noridian in 2010 as a clinical reviewer in the DME Jurisdiction D contract. Since then, she has held a variety of positions with increasing responsibility thanks to her leadership, planning and relationship building. She will execute her position from her home near Waubun, Minnesota, where she lives with her family.

Noridian Healthcare Solutions Expands Business Development Team

Noridian Healthcare Solutions, LLC (Noridian), a leader in developing solutions for federal, state and commercial health care programs, has expanded its business development team in response to organizational growth and market expansion initiatives.

Tiffany Dschaak, vice president of product and bid management, and Christine Dunleavy, vice president of channel management, join the business development team led by Noridian’s Chief Growth Officer Robert “Woody” Barela.

“This is a transformative time at Noridian as we execute our strategic growth plan that benefits current and future customers by enabling access to care, eliminating barriers and enhancing service and support,” shares Barela. “Our people are what make us successful, and Tiffany and Christine are invaluable members of our team as they advance our vision of developing solutions that put people first. Ultimately, our customers will benefit.”

In her role as VP of product and bid management, Dschaak will support Noridian’s strategic growth efforts as she oversees product strategy and development, marketing and sales support. Dschaak, a registered nurse, has been with Noridian since 2010 and previously worked in medical review. She works in the Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, region and from Noridian’s Fargo headquarters.

In her role as VP of channel management, Dunleavy will direct Noridian’s sales initiatives and assist in their execution. Dunleavy will collaborate with clients to identify their needs, create solutions and ensure a smooth sales process. She joined Noridian in December 2021 and brings a wealth of health care business development experience. Dunleavy will execute her role from Newton, Massachusetts.

Noridian Healthcare Solutions Under New Leadership

Jon Bogenreif will take over as CEO after a year of working alongside previous CEO Paul Wilson, who retired at the end of last year.

“Helping people through health care is what drives me—it’s my ‘why,’ and every day at Noridian, we work to enable access and eliminate barriers to health care,” Bogenreif shares. “Noridian has set a bold growth strategy which will expand our footprint, allowing us to help even more people, locally and nationally. I am excited to work closely with the senior leadership team to carry out this strategic plan and make it a reality.”

Prior to joining Noridian, Bogenreif was a senior vice president at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota.

Noridian Awarded GSA Contract, Helping Agencies Simplify the Procurement Process

The IDIQ contract enables federal, state and local government agencies to streamline the procurement process because it indicates a company is a trusted, reliable vendor that complies with industry rules and regulations. As a result, agencies can easily secure Noridian’s innovative solutions and reputable services through the GSA schedule.

  • Ranga Nutakki: Serving as SVP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Nutakki will lead legal services for new business, government contracts and other corporate ventures. His expansive career includes strategic transactions, securities and corporate law, and compliance in both corporations and private practice.
  • Jennifer Sandell: In the role of SVP, Strategy and Enterprise Risk Management, Sandell is responsible for creating a strategic concept and plan to move Noridian forward with new business opportunities. She brings a resume of results-driven financing and an ability to maximize business opportunities.
  • Laura Werk: As SVP, Chief Financial Officer, Werk is responsible for financial oversight and planning. Her diverse business profile includes financial and operational management with the proven ability to find strategic business solutions.

Noridian Healthcare Solutions Hires First Government Affairs Director

In this brand-new role, Williamson will help Noridian understand how federal, state and local initiatives impact its clients, which will positively influence the company’s innovative solutions and services.

“Since 1966, Noridian has been achieving ongoing successes as the government claims contractor for the federal Medicare program. As a result, our government contracts continue to grow and we identified a need for a government affairs director to ensure we’re equipped to administer customizable solutions that solve our current and future clients’ challenges,” shares Jon Bogenreif, CEO of Noridian. “We’re excited for Joe to join our team because his many years of health care experience and multitude of government relationships skills will support Noridian’s growing clientele base.”

Williamson’s other responsibilities include monitoring public policy initiatives that impact Noridian’s government clients while managing government relations. Prior to joining Noridian, he served as director for the Retail Industry Leaders Association and, before that, as a legislative representative for Kaiser Permanente in Washington D.C., where he worked closely with industry executives to address key challenges and opportunities. His work has also included analyzing, refining and supporting policy development for his associations.
