Mamuya Promoted to Noridian VP of Medical Policy

May 15, 2020

Wilfred (Fred) Mamuya, MD, PhD, has been promoted to Vice President of Medical Policy for Noridian Healthcare Solutions, LLC. Noridian is a trusted Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) serving beneficiaries, health care providers, and durable medical equipment (DME) suppliers across the United States.

A graduate of Boston University School of Medicine, Dr. Mamuya completed his medical residency and fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA. He is board certified in internal medicine, specializing in cardiovascular disease and licensed to practice medicine in Massachusetts.

Well-respected by colleagues, Dr. Mamuya has been the medical director for the Medicare Jurisdiction A DME MAC since 2013. In his newly expanded role, he will provide policy oversight and lead medical director collaboration for Noridian’s Jurisdictions A, D, E, F, and Supplemental Medical Review Contractor (SMRC) contracts, as well as potential new Noridian clinical contracts.

Dr. Mamuya expressed appreciation to Noridian’s senior leadership team for entrusting him in this role, adding, “I look forward to forming enduring relationships with each member of the Noridian family, so that in these changing times, we can together navigate towards whatever ‘new normal’ lies ahead of us.”

With Dr. Mamuya’s promotion, Noridian’s long-standing medical director, Dr. Richard Whitten, will continue full-time medical director responsibilities for the SMRC contract. Noridian’s federal health care contracts will continue to benefit from Dr. Whitten’s 20 years of Medicare experience and knowledge. Dr. Mamuya noted, “Dick is a renaissance man, likely cannot be replicated, and we are all grateful for his many years of leadership.”

Dr. Whitten stated, “Fred now has responsibility for coordinating all activities and processes to assure clinical appropriateness and standards of care within the boundaries of federal and state laws, regulations, and coverage requirements.” He added, “His position provides the expertise to explain, teach, and represent these criteria, activities, and processes to all stakeholders, as appropriate, and specifically on a regular basis to Noridian’s Senior Leadership for both current and potential areas of business. We are in very good hands!”
